The Different Kinds Of London Yoga

By Lela Perkins

When one would want to take up London yoga, he must first prepare himself both physically and mentally in order to embark on this new journey. Of course before he would take up an official class, he must do some research about what to expect when he takes it up otherwise he will become overwhelmed. For those who do not know anything about this ancient art, here are some things that may enlighten beginners.

Now there are so many variations that have been sprouting out ever since this art has gained some popularity. Among these types, there are four main ones where in the others came from. Basically, these four main variations are known as Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, and Iyengar versions.

Probably the oldest form of yoga would be Hatha which was created by the pioneer yogis of the fifteenth century. Now the primary purpose of this form is to attain enlightenment in the body and soul in order to reach a higher level of understanding. That is why this form focuses more on the meditation while it only focuses a little bit on the exercise part.

The yogis however, realized that if they were to be able to concentrate on gaining enlightenment, they must keep their bodies healthy too. So from this point on, they started practicing what is known as Vinyasa. Vinyasa is the version of yoga that does a lot of poses and it is also the where the very famous Sun Salutation came out from.

Aside from this one, the Ashtanga also came out when others wanted a more intense exercise. Basically, this one is actually very similar to the Vinyasa kind but with a lot bit more emphasis on jumps, forward lunges, push ups, and some other types of strong and fast movements. This type should only be done by those who are used to hard training and would want to break a sweat.

Now from this particular version came the Iyengar variation. Like Ashtanga, Iyengar also emphasizes a lot on giving the body more power but is more focused on the alignment of the body. This is why Iyengar makes use of a lot of things like ropes and blocks in order to help with the poses.

Of course if one would want a more modern version, then there are others that stemmed out from these four. One of them is Bikram which became very popular because it involves doing poses in a heated room in order to sweat much more. Of course there also is hanging yoga which involves doing poses on ropes and other hanging tools in order to perform in the air.

So basically, those are some of the types of London yoga that one would be encountering in his research. Of course he must choose the one that is best suited for his body as well as his personal preference so that he will be able to benefit. If he is decided on one type, then he may just go for it.
